I`m Olle Wiman born 1951 so in 2006 I will become 55 years,
this also means I had the oppurtunity to grew up during the
fantastic 60s !
At that time I lived in Borlänge wich is about 250 kms north
west of Stockholm. There were not many ways to check out
what was going on "out there" but we had the Swedish Radio,
Radio Luxemburg on MW and then of course the pop magasines.
I first heard the Rolling Stones on the radio in 1964 and
the song was Tell Me, of course I saw the light!! Then it
has been rolling on more or less all the time.
My first Rolling Stones concert that I went to was at
Råsunda Footballstadium in Stockholm Friday September 4th,
1970. It was a great gig but too bad it was too late to have
been able to see Brian Jones. I was 19 had very long hair
and in heaven, here were my heroes live !
The Rolling Stones have since 1964 always been the number
one band for me, This of course does not mean I dont listen
to other music. I was never into The Beatles but John Lennon
is one of my other heroes, what a loss it was when he was
taken away from us. I have been to the today rebuilt Cavern
Club in Liverpool wich is only about 20 meters away from
the original spot, very intresting.
In my younger days, and still do, I also digged Brittish
Blues and The Animals. Then of course all the American Blues
artists like of course Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Buddy Guy
and the younger ones but all gone now, Stevie Ray Vaughan,
Mike Bloomfield and Paul Butterfield. But I`m always coming
back to the R&B and The Rolling Stones.
I have seen every concert in Sweden since 1970, see list of
attended gigs at the end of this chronicle.
Whitout Brian there would`t be any Rolling Stones as it is
his band after all. Of course I`m a member of The Brian
Jones Fan Club in England. The BJFC is working wery hard to
get Brians case opend up as there are many uncertain
circumstances around Brians death July 2nd, 1969.
Not on the third as it says officially and on his grave
stone. I have been to Cheltenham twice so far to visit
Brians grave and also to Cothford Farm in Hartfield East
Sussex once. A special feeling to walk the lawns where Brian
walked and to see Christpher Robin in the garden, Brians
music room and dining room, the big heavy dinner table is
still there and to put my hand in the water of the pool and
to see exactly where Brian was found on the bottom of the
pool. There is a lot to read and see about Brian if you
check out Olle Wimans Brian Page in
the NSV forum.
I have become personal friends with Pat Andrews Brians ex
girlfriend and Richard ( Dick ) Hattrell one of Brians close
friends from Cheltenham as well as with Trevor Hobley who is
the editor of The BJFC.
During a couple of trips in England I have been to Redlands,
Keiths place since 1965 in West Wittering, to Dartford and
of course platform 1.
Also in Dartford 6 Spielman Road Temple Hill where Keith and
his family moved to and lived from 1954. I have also been to
Olympic Studios in Barnes London and Trevor and I had a
guided tour around the rather small house. So I have been in
THE STUDIO and walked the floor where they recorded ie. the
classic albums Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed. Then of
course I have been to 102 Edith Groove, wich is a must for
every Stones fan. The house looks still the same today as as
it did during the cold winter 1962-1963 when Brian, Keith,
Mick and a certain Jimmy Phelge ( In line with Mr Jimmy in
the Chelsea Drugstore ).
Last year I was at the Station Hotel in Richmond, the house
is the same as before but it is totally different inside
with a bar and restaurant in two levels but still of course
a clasical Stones spot to go to. During a BJFC meeting in
Cheltenham February 2005 there was a band playing and of
those who came to play was Mr Dick Taylor, a very nice man.
He gladly gave me his plectrum and signed a stationary paper
with his personal best wishes to me. And he knows how to do
the slide guitarr !!
In November 2004 Andrew Loog Oldham came to Stockholm to
show his film Charlie is my Darling, I met him. He was nice
took his time to talk and he gladly signed a couple of rare
LPs and his two books for me. Then his wife took a
photograph of us two, very nice. I have also met Mick Taylor
and Bill Wyman during their visits to Stockholm and I have
photograps of us together, but of course not at the same
time.
If you are in London go and have lunch or dinner at Bill
Wymans restaurant Sticky Fingers at 1A Phillimore Gardens,
phone: 0171-9385338, it is not too far away from 102 Edith
Grove in Chelsea.
Also check out The Brian Jones Fan Club website at:
www.brianjonesfanclub.com
I collect records mostly vinyl and I have a quite nice
collection of Rolling Stones records and books.
If there is anything please feel free to contact me via
email.
Today I live 45 kms outside Stockholm with my wife and three
dogs. My wife likes to travel with me to see the Rolling
Stones, she is not crazy about them like me, but she thinks
they are a very good band of course.
